‘Robot’ and Rajini: a flashback

Did you know that Rajini had agreed to act in ‘Robot’ long ago? Did you know that the project has come a full circle?

Here is a small flashback to recall the incident:


It was 2002 and it was the function held to launch Shankar’s ‘Boys’. Rajini attended the function as the chief guest. Shankar has arranged a demo session to reveal the talents of the boys of the ‘Boys’. Superstar enjoyed the event very much.

When Rajini came to the mike, he said that the news published in some magazines saying that Rajini and Shankar were coming together was true. “It is true. The name of the film is ‘Robot’. If I act in this movie directed by Shankar, it would run for 50 weeks. But it requires 50 crore rupees and two years to make”, said Rajini in his speech.

The dream of Shankar and the desire of superstar have been realized after almost six years. The budget has been doubled and the expectations are manifold.

In the meantime, the film has been associated with too many big names including Kamal Haasan, Vikram, Ajith, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan. The movie has come a full circle with Rajini himself acting in the mega film.

Rajini in Robot: Its official

There has been a murmur for the past couple of weeks about Superstar Rajini acting in Shankar’s Robot. This has become official now with Ayngaran International CEO Rohan Manickavasagar confirming the news. Says Rohan Manickavasagar “Ayngaran and Eros Multimedia will be jointly producing Robot featuring Rajinikanth and directed by Shankar. The formal agreements will be signed soon,”.



If Shivaji was shot on a 80 Crore budget, the movie Robot will be produced on a 100 crore budget by Ayngaran International and Eros Multimedia. The sucess team of Shivaji which includes Shankar, Rajini and A.R. Rahman are all set to repeat their magic again in Robot. The rest of the crew needs to be still decided. This is going to be a never seen before Sci-Fi thriller for the Tamil audience.

London-based Ayngaran International, in which Kishore Lulla-owned Eros International picked up a controlling stake last July, is to produce the film.

Robot movie has been associated with many major super stars like Sharukh Khan who opted out of the movie due to differences with Shankar. Also ultimate star Ajith Kumar and Amir Khan were also associated with Robot.

It is said that Super star will first star in a short-duration project produced by Balachander and directed by P. Vasu before he stars shooting for Robot.
